Guided by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said's strong commitment to providing excellence in education for the country's youth, the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) was established in collaboration with RWTH Aachen University to introduce new internationally recognised educational opportunities in Oman.

GUtech is the first of its kind in the region. It opened its doors to the first cohort of students in 2007 and in the last two years has gone from strength-to-strength. With a strong focus on applied studies in the areas of Geosciences, Information Technology, Urban Planning and Architectural Design, and Regional Management and Tourism, GUtech offers students a world-class education right here in Oman.

The University has a very high staff-to-student ratio and prides itself on the high quality of education on offer. This coupled with a commitment to innovation and research ensures that GUtech has strong - and growing - links with business and industry here in the Gulf and Europe.

All of the four Bachelor degree programmes have been designed specifically for the region by Professors at RWTH Aachen University, and the Bachelor syllabuses are taught by German academics. English is the language of instruction.

With the support of its partner and role model RWTH Aachen University, GUtech is educating highly qualified and responsible-minded students according to German standards with a firm grounding in Omani heritage.

The Bachelor degrees offered are recognised in Oman and the European Union, thereby offering a wide range of options for students' future careers.

The German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) is proud to announce its international accreditation as the first private university in the Sultanate.

All of GUtech's BSc programmes were awarded international accreditation status by the German-based Accreditation, Certification and Quality Assurance Institute (ACQUIN) in June 2009. ACQUIN is a non-profit agency committed to supporting the enhancement of quality standards for teaching and learning in higher education worldwide. It is a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education and operates in Germany,  Austria, Switzerland, Middle and Eastern Europe, North Africa, Near and Middle East. For more than three decades Oman and Germany have enjoyed successful cooperation  politically, economically and culturally. Germans are the largest private investors on the Arabian Peninsula and are particularly attracted to Oman because of the country's drive for modernisation and diversification.

In recent years, German companies have been involved in large-scale industrial projects such as a methanol plant in Sohar and the opening of pole producers Europoles in Nizwa.  The two countries have also cooperated on the high-profile archaeological project at Al Balid in Salalah.

Away from the business world, tourists from Germany are one of the largest groups of visitors to Oman from around the world.

This fruitful relationship between the two countries was further cemented with the establishment of the German University of Technology in Oman in 2007 and most recently the opening of the German Business House - a dedicated centre for boosting trade between Oman and Germany.
