red_arrow RWTH Aaachen University -  our partner institution

Q - Can you tell me a little more about RWTH Aachen University?

RWTH Aachen University was established in 1870.  Today RWTH Aachen University has approximately 30,000 students, of which 5,400 are from overseas. With over 4000 academic staff and more than 2500 non-academic staff, RWTH Aachen University is the leading University of Technology in Germany. It is a member of the elite IDEA-League, a strategic partnership of five of Europe's leading research universities of technology, including Imperial College London in the UK, Delft University  in the Netherlands, ETH Zurich University in Switzerland and ParisTech in France.

In 2007, RWTH Aachen University was awarded the title of University of Excellence by the German Council of Science and Humanities in recognition of the University' s on-going outstanding research activities. Only nine of Germany's 360 universities were awarded this title. This not only emphasized the unique position of the university, but it also brought with it additional funding to expand this role in the future.

RWTH Aachen University is characterised by an interdisciplinary approach and there are strong links between university and industry. The curricula taught at Aachen University aims at developing a solid foundation in scientific subjects which then enables students to apply their knowledge to engineering, economic and society-related problems. In the engineering faculties up to 80% of the professors are recruited from industry having both a strong scientific as well as industrial background.

A key benchmark for the successful research of RWTH Aachen University is third-party funding. Aachen is proud to be the institution of Higher Education that has been awarded the most third-party funding in Germany in recent years.  In addition numerous international research institutions have settled in the Aachen region because of the availability of highly qualified researchers and graduates in engineering and science.

Due to the innovation strength of RWTH Aachen University a large number of start-up companies have been founded over the last 25 years - turning the local region into a "German Silicon Valley".

In 1999 RWTH Aachen University established the RWTH Aachen International Academy which offered courses specifically tailored for companies - from short term to complete master programmes in the fields of engineering, management and dentistry.

Within the internationalization strategy of RWTH Aachen University the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) is the latest milestone. The academic and administrative strength of RWTH Aachen University supports the needs of the Sultanate of Oman's society for qualified graduates, so that the country is prepared to meet the challenges of the future.

See RWTH Aachen University for more detailed information
