RWTH Aachen University is a member of the IDEA-League, a strategic partnership of five of Europe's leading research universities of technology including Imperial College London, Delft University, ETH Zurich University and Paris Tech.

The German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) is affiliated with RWTH Aachen University and will strive to become the leading university of technology in the region, following the successful of RWTH Aachen.

GUtech's research model is characterised by that of RWTH Aachen - a network of scientific, economic and academic structures which will result in significant third-party research funding and technology spin-offs. GUtech also aims to position itself as a Centre of Excellence in research within the region, running workshops with a prime focus on research and development and establishing close links with industry to optimise the employability of its graduates.
