RWTH AACHEN UNIVERSITY
RWTH
Aachen University is GUtech’s German partner
university and one of the best universities
in Germany. RWTH Aachen is a member of the
prestigious IDEA League, an elite-university
network comprising Imperial College London,
Delft University in the Netherlands, ETH
Zuerich University and ParisTech Institute
in France. Founded in the 18th
century, RWTH Aachen University currently
has over 30,000 students.
In 2007, RWTH Aachen University reaffirmed
its world-class position on two different
occasions.
The first, on October 9, when the Nobel
Prize 2007 was awarded to Albert Fert (Université
Paris-Sud, France) and Peter Grünberg (Jülich
Research Centre, Germany) for the discovery
of Giant Magnetoresistance. The Jülich
Research Centre and RWTH Aachen University
have a long-standing research cooperation in
many fields. Both Albert Fert and Peter
Grünberg have recently been awarded honorary
doctorates from RWTH Aachen University. In
addition on October 19, RWTH Aachen
University was conferred the title of
“University of Excellence” by the German
Research Foundation (DFG) and the German
Science Council (WR), in recognition of the
RWTH’s on-going research activities.
