Why GUtech?

As the only German University in the Gulf region, the German University of Technology in Oman is a unique institution, combining the German excellence in science and technology and with a firm grounding in Oman’s culture and heritage. As a young and innovative university with a student body of just under 2000, GUtech is able to deliver an education that incorporates theory and practice in an individualized setting. Guided by our highly qualified international academic staff, GUtech students not only learn the theory, they apply and extend what they learn in the classroom in current, hands-on projects with real-life application, exemplifying the Humboldt ideal of a holistic education.

Rooted in Omani tradition and driven by German quality standards, GUtech has an inherently international outlook. Our students, faculty, and staff hail from about 40 different countries across the globe and at least as many different mother tongues can be heard on campus. Students are encouraged to take advantage of our international exchange agreements to gain international experience, especially through our DAAD funded programmes at RWTH Aachen University including short stays for summer schools or faculty led excursions or long-term stays to write the Bachelor thesis in Aachen or enrol in a consecutive Master’s program there.

GUtech is accredited nationally by the Omani Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and the Oman Academic Accreditation Agency (OAAA), and has achieved overseas accreditation by the German Accreditation, Certification and Quality Assurance Institute (ACQUIN), ensuring that our graduates’ degrees enable them to pursue careers and further education wherever they choose to go next.

Our alumni are our best ambassadors.

“One of the things I liked best about GUtech is the freedom you have to develop your own ideas and your own projects and really work and think independently while getting strong support from your lecturers, professors, and supervisors”
Aysha Farooq ‘12

“Due to the strong bonds with RWTH [Aachen University], between faculties and also the programmes and how they are run, it was easy for me to make that transition between studying in Oman and then taking on further studies in Germany”
Aysha Farooq ‘12

“The four years I spent at GUtech were stressful but filled with exciting projects, amazing friends, once in a lifetime opportunities and unforgettable moments. The small teacher to student ratio at the University enabled close discussions with the professors that isn’t possible at big universities. The support and advice I received from the professors at GUtech enabled me to make the right decisions and get to where I am today. The high reputation that GUtech enjoys with its affiliation to RWTH Aachen has opened several doors for me.  Furthermore, the scholarship I received from GUtech made it possible for me to study my masters in Germany and experience a whole new country and culture. I will always miss my time at GUtech.”
Mohammed Omer ‘15

“GUtech not only prepared me to aim for heights in my academic career but also helped me develop my personality into a confident public speaker through the possibilities of engagement in various extra-curricular activities on campus. Furthermore being a part of the Eco Haus project gave me a taste of reality and professional experience already as a student, which helped me integrate myself better in the professional and academic world in my further studies in Europe.”
Shaherin Annisa ‘14

“GUtech set the foundation–from network, opportunity, and knowledge—on which I am currently building my career.”
Rowa Elzain ‘12
