
Costas is an advisor in technology transfer and innovation management. Prior to joining AWJ Innovation Costas was the inaugural Deputy Vice-Chancellor and part of the founding team of Muscat University, a high quality, technology oriented private university in Oman. Before Muscat University, Costas worked for CITI Limited, a boutique change and project management consulting firm working with several FTSE 100 organisations in the UK advising them on translating visions and strategies into implementable projects and programmes.
Costas joined CITI from Oxford University Innovation, the technology transfer company of the University of Oxford, where he worked as a managing consultant managing teams of consultants leading large engagements in innovation management, technology transfer, technical due diligence and business transformation with several universities, commercial, and government organisations spanning across Europe, South-East Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Costas’s career in management consulting, project management and product development included Alcatel-Lucent, Pera Innovation and SPI lasers, a spin-out from the University of Southampton where he led complex technology projects with high visibility clients such as DARPA, Northrop Grumman, DoD, Boeing and Raytheon. SPI Lasers became a public company in 2005.
Costas has published several papers in peer-reviewed international journals on the broad subject of rare-earth doped amplifiers and optical communication systems, in light emission from Si and more recently on University-Industry-Government interactions in emerging ecosystems with the view to build and sustain knowledge-based economies. He regularly delivers courses and presentations to conferences and Universities worldwide about innovation management and entrepreneurship.
