Building Standards Applied by the GUtech to Minimise Water Use

GUtech Water Efficiency Initiatives

GUtech applies sustainable building standards to minimize water use across campus. Facilities feature water-efficient fixtures, including low-flow faucets and showerheads, low-pressure mixer taps, and sink water filters, all designed to reduce consumption without compromising user comfort. These measures reflect the university’s commitment to responsible water management and environmental sustainability.

The university integrates sustainable agricultural practices that promote efficient water use and long-term water security. One key practice is the application of permeable soil mixes and soil-conditioning techniques to improve infiltration, reduce surface runoff, and enhance groundwater recharge. By increasing the soil’s permeability and water-holding capacity, agricultural fields are able to retain moisture for longer periods, which reduces the need for frequent irrigation and minimizes water loss through evaporation. This contributes directly to SDG 6 by improving water-use efficiency and supporting ecosystem health.
