The 2024 forum focused on the role of Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) in enhancing Oman’s global economic competitiveness and addressing national priorities. EJAAD’s commitment to fostering impactful cross-sector partnerships was emphasized throughout the event, with highlights of successful collaborative R&D projects that have contributed to Oman’s economic goals. At this year’s forum, GUtech, represented by Dr. Hussain Al Salmi, Deputy Rector for Administration and Finances, signed a significant agreement with Oman LNG for a hydrogen transportation study. This project, a case study on integrating hydrogen into Oman’s existing gas networks and pipelines, aims to explore cost-effective alternatives for expanding the nation’s energy infrastructure.
Additionally, GUtech’s Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, Dr. Nabil Sahli, participated in a panel discussion titled “How Can We Unlock the Challenges and Opportunities within Government, Industry, and Academia to Leapfrog Oman’s GII Position?” Dr. Sahli presented GUtech’s vision and strategic approaches, emphasizing how Omani universities can better align research initiatives with industry needs and the national innovation agenda. He underscored the crucial role academia plays in driving innovation through enhanced collaboration with industry and government, highlighting the importance of academic research in fostering a forward-looking, resilient economy for Oman.
