GUtech has participated in outreach programs aimed at promoting awareness of clean energy and energy efficiency among the local community.
GUtech’s Shams Solar Outdoor Training Facility plays a central role in educating the wider community on the importance of energy efficiency and clean energy, particularly solar power. Since 2017, the University Solar Team has delivered hands-on training programmes—including Solar Design and Installation (PV101L), Solar Electric Lab (PV201L), GUtech Summer Academies, MEDRC solar training, and the Shell Nawafidh programme—benefiting over 450 participants from 69 companies. The facility also engages schools through field trips, community competitions, and outreach activities that build solar awareness among youth. Through SME incubation (Dymuma Advanced Projects LLC), DCRP licensing support, and multiple R&D projects funded by BP Oman, MOHERI, EJAAD, and Oman LNG, GUtech advances national solar innovation, including the development and “Made in Oman” manufacturing of three autonomous solar-cleaning robots. These efforts are strengthened by academic courses, scholarships, and scientific publications on solar efficiency, making the Shams Facility a comprehensive hub for community learning, capacity building, and the promotion of clean energy adoption across Oman.

GUtech also strengthens community awareness of clean and efficient energy through its strategic collaboration with Marafiq – OQ. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed to promote joint initiatives in renewable-energy research, capacity building, and practical learning. Through this partnership, GUtech students are encouraged to explore real-world energy challenges linked to Marafiq’s major projects in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm—exposing them to innovative solutions in power generation, water services, and integrated utility systems. The agreement also aims to foster wider energy-efficiency awareness by connecting students’ research with community needs, helping translate technical knowledge into practical actions that benefit the local and broader community.

GUtech also advances clean-energy awareness through its collaboration with Asyad Group, following the signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with the Oman Hydrogen Centre at GUtech. The partnership focuses on studying the potential of Oman’s ports and logistics systems in supporting the country’s emerging green hydrogen economy—an area central to future energy efficiency and sustainability. By engaging students, researchers, and local stakeholders in this national initiative, the MoU strengthens knowledge transfer and promotes understanding of hydrogen technologies and energy-transition opportunities within the local community. This collaboration enhances GUtech’s outreach efforts by linking academic expertise with real-world applications that improve energy awareness and support Oman’s long-term clean-energy goals.
An example includes GUtech’s collaboration with Global Shams, a national initiative that raises awareness about the use of solar energy in Oman.
Through this partnership, GUtech engaged with the public to highlight the importance of renewable energy and its role in achieving sustainable development in the country.
