Prof. Michael Braun, Rector of the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech), and Prof. Shin Dong Ryeol, President of Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU), South Korea, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Monday, 12th December, 2022, in Seoul, South Korea, in the presence of H.E. Sheik Abdullah M. Al Salmi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oman Educational Services (OES) and his delegation, H.E. Zakariya bin Hamad Alsaadi, the Omani Ambassador in South Korea, and Deans and members of SKK University.
SKKU was established in 1398 and is the oldest university in East Asia. Based on its highly successful partnership with SAMSUNG which has generously funded several core initiatives at SKKU, the university has been rapidly developing since 1996. The partnership also enabled SKKU to develop world-leading academic programs in software development, mobile communications engineering, energy engineering, nanotechnology, business, medicine, and law SKKU is operating two innovative campuses serving the Humanities & Social Sciences and Natural Sciences.
There are many areas of common interest in particular in Engineering, Technology and Science. Apart from scientific cooperation in teaching, research and development, joint activities as well as staff and student exchange the two parties have agreed on a number of strategic topics in which the two institutions will support each other in the future. The visit included a discussion with the incoming President of SKKU as well as lab tours and working meetings on different topics. SAMSUNG Engineering was another destination during the visit.
