Three GUtech students attended the International Carbonate Course at the FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg (Germany)

MUSCAT Three students of the Applied Geoscience programme of the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) participated in the annual International Carbonate Course of the GeoCenter at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (Germany). The students were awarded with study-scholarships from GUtech for the travel to Germany in March 2023. The one-week course is a practical course, designed for students and professionals from the oil and gas industry who are studying and working on carbonate rocks. The GeoCenter of the FAU Erlangen hosts the worldwide largest collection of carbonate thin sections. The examination of such thin slices of rocks under the microscope allows the determination of the deposition conditions of the carbonate rocks and the prediction of the suitability as reservoirs for oil, gas and groundwater. After a three year break caused by the global pandemic GUtech students attended this course for the ninth time.
