His Excellency Eng. Masoud bin Saeed Al Hashemi, Governor of South Al Batinah, paid an official visit to the German University of Technology in the Sultanate of Oman, within the framework of strengthening cooperation and partnership between South Al Batinah Governorate and academic institutions, in a manner that supports local development pathways and contributes to building national capacities.
The Memorandum of Cooperation signed between South Al Batinah Governorate and the German University of Technology aims to enhance institutional collaboration in areas of mutual interest, support capacity-building efforts, and launch a series of specialized seminars, training, awareness, scientific, and practical programs in the fields of cybersecurity, computer science, artificial intelligence, logistics management, and other related disciplines. This cooperation will enable the provision of technical consultations and the development of practical solutions to challenges facing institutions. The memorandum also includes facilitating joint meetings between both parties, encouraging and supporting projects, research initiatives, incubators, and student-led companies, as well as leveraging expertise and specialized competencies from both sides in the implementation of joint programs and projects.
His Excellency the Governor was received by His Excellency Dr. Hussain bin Sulaiman Al Salmi, Vice Rector for Administration and Finance, along with a number of heads of administrative and academic departments. During the visit, the delegation was briefed through a visual presentation highlighting the university’s vision, academic and research mission, and its key completed and ongoing projects within South Al Batinah Governorate.
His Excellency the Governor and Their Excellencies the Walis also reviewed several student projects presented by students of the College of Design and Urban Planning, which demonstrate the application of academic knowledge in proposing innovative urban and developmental solutions that contribute to the advancement of cities and local communities. His Excellency commended the advanced level of these projects, emphasizing the importance of utilizing them to support the governorate’s development plans.
During the visit, Mr. Abbas Al Ajmi, Assistant Vice Rector for Administration and Finance, delivered a presentation on the Universities and Colleges Façade Project designed by the university. The presentation reviewed the project’s components and discussed the associated challenges. His Excellency the Governor of South Al Batinah affirmed his full support for the project and directed that it be submitted to the relevant authorities to complete the necessary procedures.
His Excellency the Governor of South Al Batinah emphasized the importance of the existing partnership between the university and the governorate in supporting development efforts across various educational, research, and developmental fields. He highlighted the role played by the university through scientific and applied research in serving local development, in addition to stressing the importance of providing facilitations for the governorate’s residents with regard to tuition fees.
For his part, His Excellency Dr. Hussain bin Sulaiman Al Salmi reaffirmed the German University of Technology’s commitment to supporting South Al Batinah Governorate and harnessing the capabilities of its academic and administrative staff to provide research and developmental ideas that contribute to achieving sustainable development and strengthening partnerships with various government entities.
The visit concluded with a tour of the university’s facilities, including the History of Science Centre, where the delegation was introduced to its contents and its scientific and cultural role—reflecting the depth of partnership and integration between the university and South Al Batinah Governorate in serving sustainable development goals.
