The German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) operates an on-site Sewage Treatment Plant (STP)and a Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant as part of its integrated water management system. The STP treats domestic wastewater generated within the university premises, and the treated effluent is reused for landscape irrigation, supporting GUtech’s sustainability and water conservation objectives. Wastewater is also treated in the constructed wetland near the Ecohouse and then used for irrigation for the surrounding plants.
On average, approximately 51,013 cubic meters of treated water from the STP are utilized annually for irrigation purposes. Additionally, the RO Plant produces an average of 87,954 cubic meters of treated water per year, which is used to supply the university’s facilities, ensuring a reliable and sustainable source of clean water for campus operations and reducing dependence on external water supplies.
