The UNESCO Chair for World Heritage Management and Sustainable Tourism in the Arab Region at GUtech Oman joined the Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science in celebrating the International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage through a national symposium titled:
“Living Heritage: The Story of Humanity and the Sustainability of its Knowledge.”
Held under the patronage of Eng. Ibrahim Al Kharusi, Undersecretary for Heritage, and attended by H.E. Sayyid Saeed Al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Culture, the event explored living heritage as a foundation of national identity and sustainable development.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Heba Aziz, Professor and holder of the UNESCO Chair, emphasized the importance of linking the 1972 and 2003 UNESCO Conventions on tangible and intangible heritage to achieve real community engagement in line with Oman Vision 2040, noting that “the 2003 Convention represents the living memory of society.”
