GUtech leading Innovations in Earth Sciences, Resources, and Climate Resilience

The Department of Applied Geosciences at GUtech leads multidisciplinary research that advances the understanding of Oman’s geology, natural resources, and environmental challenges. Its projects span structural geology, mineral resource exploration, subsurface imaging of salt domes, natural hydrogen exploration, and remote sensing–based analysis for natural resource evaluation. The department also investigates Precambrian basement rocks and studies the tectonic evolution of the northeastern part of Oman. Environmental research includes hydrogeology, hot spring systems, and water quality in drylands, alongside the development of AI-based flood-modelling tools and high-resolution DEMs. Together, these efforts support Oman’s priorities in resource exploration, environmental protection, renewable energy, and climate-resilient development.
