- DBA in Business Administration
Overview
The Faculty of Business and Economics at the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) offers the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program. The DBA program at GUtech is structured over three to four years, with the first two years focusing on coursework and research seminars, followed by the final years dedicated to dissertation research.
The DBA program is widely regarded as the premier degree for senior professionals who wish to combine executive practice with advanced research and strategic leadership development. Unlike traditional PhD programmes that primarily focus on theoretical research and academic careers, the DBA equips experienced leaders with the ability to generate practical, evidence-based solutions to complex business challenges—serving as a bridge between academia and executive practice.
GUtech’s decision to introduce the DBA program is strongly supported by market demand, including clear interest from mid- to senior-level professionals, feedback from employers, and a growing need for executive education that is both academically rigorous and practically relevant.
The GUtech DBA program emphasizes advanced theoretical and applied knowledge. Graduates of the program are expected to demonstrate a deep and comprehensive understanding of business administration, at the forefront of the field, and its relationship to other relevant areas. This is embedded in the coursework such as Research Theory and Methodology, Contemporary Issues in Business 1 and 2, and Accounting & Finance for Decision-Making, which expose students to current theories, practices, and literature across business domains. Through Research Seminars and Dissertation Research, students identify areas of specialization and contribute original knowledge, fulfilling this key requirement.
The DBA builds on GUtech’s academic infrastructure, faculty expertise, and hybrid delivery capabilities, while directly addressing key national priorities outlined in Oman Vision 2040—including leadership development, innovation, economic diversification, and the advancement of a knowledge-based economy.
The DBA program at GUtech is designed for experienced professionals from a wide range of industries, including commercial, public, and private sectors. It targets senior managers, executives, entrepreneurs, and consultants who aim to advance their careers and enhance their ability to address complex business challenges through research-driven solutions.
Graduates of GUtech’s DBA program will be well-equipped for leadership roles, contributing to strategic decision-making in both corporate and public sectors. The program prepares professionals to become expert organizational practitioners, capable of bridging the gap between academic research and real-world business practice. They will possess the skills necessary to drive innovation, improve organizational performance, and provide thought leadership in their respective fields.
